Sinaran PPA in talks to seal RM300mil solar leasing contracts

KUALA LUMPUR: Sinaran PPA Sdn Bhd is in the midst of negotiations to seal solar leasing contracts worth RM300 million with various building owners in Selangor, Kedah, Penang and Perak.

Sinaran PPA is a new joint-venture company between engineering company Metronic Global Bhd (Mtronic) and Earthtech Sdn Bhd to seek opportunities in the solar power sector.

Earthtech is a member of the Dehui Group, a comprehensive multinational green energy group which operates globally.

In a statement today, Mtronic said discussions are ongoing to seal the solar leasing contracts with a total proposed size of 29,260 kilowatts peak (kWp) for a term of 25 years.

Earlier this year, the company signed two power purchase agreements (PPAs) with a total capacity of 4,121 kWp for RM50 million.

The 25-year PPAS were to develop and maintain, among others, solar photovoltaic (solar PV) generating facilities in Kedah.

The construction and installation of solar PV facilities pursuant to these two PPAs are expected to complete in the fourth quarter of 2022 with the commencement of operations immediately thereafter.

"In this respect, the group’s plan to venture into the solar energy business is premised on the favourable outlook and prospects for the solar PV industry in Malaysia,” Mtronic said.

It added that the long-term recurring income to be generated from the leasing of the electricity generated from the solar PV facility to the site owners under the solar leasing activities to be undertaken by Sinaran PPA is also expected to contribute positively to the future earnings of the group.

Meanwhile, Mtronic announced on July 5, 2022 that its rights issue was 99.88 per cent subscribed and managed to raise RM77.97 million.

With the completion of the rights issue, Mtronic has raised the required funds for Sinaran PPA to kickstart the solar business, the statement said.

These proceeds will be used to finance the acquisition of the material, machinery and commissioning of the factory buildings as well as preparing Sinaran PPA to undertake a further 29,260 kWp of contracts, Mtronic said.

It noted that such funds are also expected to strengthen Sinaran PPA’s financial position moving forward while enabling it to approach more and bigger potential clients for solar leasing contracts in the future. - Bernama
